Description

Sri Lanka’s constitution will be amended in three stages very soon. This will help fulfill the people’s expectations of a better government, a better economy and a better future, said Engineering services, Housing and Public Utilities Minister Wimal Weerawansa addressing a meeting at Nawagampura in Maligawatte this morning.

Minister Weerawansa launched the second stage of the “Nagamu Purawara” programme in Colombothis morning (August 28) to mark World Habitat Day.

A brutal war has seen its end. Now the people expect the dividends of peace. To win the development war a strong government is needed. Capable officials are needed. All can get together to move forward as one. Towards this there are several issues to be taken up, said Mr. Weerawansa.

Currently we are tied by a constitutional trap. We should come out of this trap if we are to develop our country. Towards this, the constitution will be amended in three stages and the first stage will be implemented very soon, said Wimal Weerawansa.

When President Mahinda Rajapaksa takes oaths as President for the second term in November, everything will be in place to make this country take the next leap towards development. Not only the Hambantota harbour and airport, there will be more changes for the better.

Decisions will be taken to propel the country to a better future. All should get together if we are to enjoy the dividends of this development, said Minister Weerawansa.
